Diablo 4 Season 4 Revamps Loot System for Faster Build Optimization

The upcoming overhaul of loot in Diablo 4 Season 4 is prioritizing "excellence over abundance" to facilitate quicker assembly of your game build. The significant revamp planned for Diablo 4's loot system adopts an "excellence over abundance" mantra to expedite the development of novel builds.

The anticipated Season 4 of Diablo 4, originally scheduled for an April release, has been postponed by Blizzard to May, with the announcement coming just yesterday. This considerable refresh of the loot system, accompanying the new season, has necessitated the introduction of Diablo 4's Public Test Realm, arriving nine months post-launch. This delay to the start of Season 4 allows Blizzard the necessary time to incorporate feedback from the PTR.

Following the recent Campfire livestream, Blizzard has issued the 'Quick and Dirty' summary, where the lead developers outlined the season's updates. According to these details, the revamped loot system will adopt an "excellence over abundance" strategy. This adjustment means you'll encounter fewer loot items from game activities, but the items you do receive will expedite the enhancement of your build.

An excellent illustration of this new strategy is observed in the adjustments to Affixes. The adjustment to the loot system will see a reduction in the total number of Affixes in Diablo 4, yet the remaining Affixes will be significantly more potent than before. These Affixes can be incorporated into items using the game's novel crafting system. Furthermore, Rare items will be equipped with two Affixes, while Legendary items will feature three Affixes in total.

The newly introduced crafting system is set to play a crucial role, offering a fresh strategy to enhance your existing items in Diablo 4. Exiting a Nightmare Dungeon might no longer yield 25 items, suggesting a shift towards obtaining fewer, but more valuable items for your character's progression.

Diablo 4's Season 4 is now set to begin on May 14, with the PTR going live for players to explore from April 2 to 9.
