Microsoft Designer App Goes Global with AI-Powered Image Creation and Editing Tools

Microsoft has announced the global release of its Designer app, previously available only in preview mode. Now accessible on Android and iOS mobile platforms as well as on Windows desktops, the app is free to download and install. Initially introduced last year, the Designer platform has been available on the web and through the Microsoft Edge browser for several months. However, it is interesting to note that the tech giant has chosen to keep the Designer app separate from the Copilot app on Android and iOS platforms.

The launch was revealed in a company blog post stating that the Microsoft Designer app is now generally available with a personal Microsoft account. The new features aim to provide enhanced capabilities for creating and editing content. A personal Microsoft account is required to use the app.

The Microsoft Designer app stands out as an artificial intelligence (AI) image generator, operating differently than typical text-to-image generators. It utilizes OpenAI's Dall-E model to create images, social posts, invitations, stickers, wallpapers, avatars, and more. Users can select their desired output from options on the home screen and input a text prompt to generate content.

Alternatively, users can choose from various templates that set up the initial framework for the image, allowing them to simply fill in the details to guide the AI in creating the desired output. This technique holds particular value for individuals looking to spark their initial creativity. Besides image generation, the app's AI capabilities extend to editing functions, with tools available to remove or blur backgrounds.

Free users of the app receive 15 credits per day, with each image generation consuming one credit, provided the prompt isn't overly complex. Each generation yields four variations of the image. For those needing to generate more images, a Copilot Pro subscription is required, priced at Rs. 2,000 per month per user in India. This subscription also grants access to Copilot features in Microsoft Office apps.
